How did I come to New York? The story begins at a monastery. I am on the side of Mt. Fuji. It’s 3 AM. And a voice, woke me, “GET UP, GET UP, GO OUT TO THE STREET.”
So I did. And this is in Mt. Fuji, where the street points down, steeply. And there is nothing - it is dark, there is nobody. And I’m there. and the sun begins to rise. And at the height that I am, in terms of the atmosphere, I have a very, very long view atmospherically. And some kind of thing hit me, whoaaa, and the voice says,
“IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT OF ASIA, YOU MUST REACH NEW YORK BEFORE SUNDOWN.”
And I was on Mt Fuji. And the train had already left. So I hired a cab to go down and the Tokaido Express had just been initiated 2-3 years before. So I took the express to the airport. And since I knew about the airlines since I was a swiss air instructor, I found a flight going over the North Pole. The plane was half empty. and I sat on the left side and guess what? The sun came down to the horizon and stayed there, it did not disappear.
And I got to New York before sundown.
